After a drought-stricken summer, your trees need a lot of water and care and one of the best ways to do that is by mulching. Two to three inches of mulch under the canopy of the tree helps to reduce moisture loss and the drying effects of the sun and wind. Mulch:

? Protects your tree from water evaporation in the soil allowing that water to be available for trees

? Limits the growth of grass, reducing the chance of mowers and weed eaters hitting tree trunks and doing physical damage

? Slowly decays, providing nutrients for the soil which are then made available to the trees

Mulch should NOT be touching the bark of the tree. Creating a berm on the outer edge will help to hold moisture. Learn more tips on mulching your trees here:
